What are the costs associated with hearing loss?
Hearing loss can have a significant financial impact. You will have to pay for costs related to a hearing aid, in addition to the expenses associated with repairs, implants, adjustments, examinations and maintenance. The use of the following articles may be considered:
Cochlear implants:Â Enable the transmission of signals from the inner ear (cochlea) to the brain.

Speech processors for bone-anchored hearing aids (PAAO): Allow the transmission of sound waves to the inner ear (“bypassing” thus the outer ear and the middle ear).
Abutments for speech processors for bone-anchored hearing aids
FM systems: Consist of a receiver (which you wear) and a transmitter (carried by the speaker). This system is used in a noisy environment or when the interlocutor is at a certain distance.
Teleprinters: Send messages over a telephone line.
Telephone amplifiers: Improve the quality of sound on the telephone.
Adaptive alarm clocks: Use vibrations or a higher volume to wake you up.
Whether you need one or two hearing aids, implants or hearing aids, the bill can run into the thousands of dollars. How to ease your financial burden? Find out about your provincial/territorial plan first.
Does your employee benefits plan to cover expenses related to hearing loss?
Need additional financial support? Check to see if your employer’s plan covers extended health care costs or includes a Health Spending Account. You may be reimbursed for certain medical expenses (e.g., hearing aids) not covered by your provincial/territorial plan. Check with HR.
