Bring only what you need.
One month before your departure date, check the items accepted by the airline and the maximum dimensions of hand luggage. Also, make sure you are covered by travel medical insurance.
Search to make sure you have all the necessary materials. For example, if the electrical sockets are different in your destination country, you will need an adapter to charge your phone. Also, if you’re staying in a hostel, you’ll probably need a padlock for your storage locker.
Then review the planned route. Make a list of the clothes and items you will need each day. Opt for clothes that can be washed easily and bring a bar of soap so you can clean and wear them again during your trip (you can also go to a laundromat if there is one nearby and if you have time).
Planning will give you plenty of time to remove or add items from your list if your itinerary changes or purchase valuable items (e.g. clothes that dry quickly if the temperature is humid, water shoes to face the waterfalls or containers to transport liquids).
Learn about liquid rules
Since you won’t have checked baggage, you’ll need to pay close attention to liquid guidelines provided by airlines. Liquids must be in containers of no more than 100 ml (3.4 oz) and placed in a bag with a maximum capacity of one litre. Remember that some airlines have specific restrictions on the types of liquids allowed.
The list of permitted items on the airline’s website sometimes differs from the list displayed at the airport. Take all necessary precautions with liquids and batteries and leave sharp objects at home to avoid problems.
Prepare your hand luggage.
Ideally, make sure you have all the items you need before starting. Place them on a flat surface. Divide your clothes into three or four piles, making sure to place the more minor things in the centre. Then roll the clothes from each bank together and put them in your hand luggage. Place the shoes (or other items) between the rolled-up clothes.
Remember that your passport and travel insurance documents should be kept in an accessible but secure place.
Your hand luggage contains everything you need, but will there be room to bring back souvenirs? Although disposable items can free up space, it is wasteful and hurt the environment. Why not slip an old bath towel that has had its day in your hand luggage? Use it during the trip, then throw it away so you can bring back a souvenir of the trip.
In addition to saving time and money, carry-on luggage is easy to carry and allows you to quickly access everything you need to live an even more pleasant experience!
